Art Collectors Submission - Call for Information of Works of Art by Drew McRitchie, Canadian Artist 1954 - 2021

A disciplined artist with a career spanning over six decades, Drew McRitchie has produced an impressive body of work in a variety of media. His oeuvre includes painting, drawing, sculpture, photomontage, photography, music, text art and poetry.

Founded in 2022, the Drew McRitchie Catalogue Raisonné Project (DMCR) is an ongoing commitment to preserving the artistic practice of Vancouver-based artist Drew McRitchie (1954 - 2021). The Drew McRitchie Catalogue Raisonné Project is seeking information on all of Drew McRitchie's artworks. Descriptive details, exhibitions, publications and detailed ownership histories will be documented for each work in this long-term research project.

Throughout his career, Drew McRitchie achieved considerable success as an artist. His work has been exhibited in numerous major galleries across North America. In Toronto, his art was showcased at Nancy Poole Studio, which is now known as Loch Gallery, as well as at Gallery Moos, which also featured his work in their Calgary location. In North Vancouver, his work was displayed at Presentation House, now called Polygon Gallery.

In Vancouver, McRitchie’s pieces were exhibited at Harrington Galleries, while in Victoria, his work was exhibited at both Emily Carr House and Winchester Gallery. His art reached international audiences with exhibitions at Barakat Contemporary Gallery in Los Angeles and participation in the LA Art Fair.

McRitchie’s talent and contributions to the arts have been recognized with numerous awards, including a prestigious Canada Council Grant for the Arts. Much of his early work is held in prominent corporate and private collections, attesting to his enduring influence and the high regard in which his art is held.

The Drew McRitchie Estate seeks to confirm records of known works of art that left McRitchie's Vancouver studio by inviting private collectors, corporate collectors, galleries, auction houses, museums and other institutions to participate in broadening our awareness of McRitchie's artistic contributions.

If you own or have owned a work that you believe to be by Drew McRitchie, please send us your information to begin the submission process. If you wish to have it included in the Drew McRitchie Catalogue Raisonnè, we invite you to submit all known information about the work to the Drew McRitchie Estate for evaluation and consideration.

Please note that the Drew McRitchie estate does not authenticate or provide valuations for art works. However, inclusion in the Drew McRitchie Catalogue Raisonné is believed to significantly enhance the value of the artworks you own.

 


 

Submission Guidelines:

To be considered for inclusion in the Drew McRitchie Catalogue Raisonné, please submit images and any known information, as well as any supporting documentation, about the work(s) you believe to be by McRitchie in your possession for each individual work or object by email to Drew-McRitchie-Estate@protonmail.com or by post to:

We will be happy to send you the submission form for inclusion in the Catalogue Raisonnè.  We kindly ask you to provide the following information for each submitted work:

  • Name and contact information of the current owner or owner's representative
  • Title or description of the work
  • Medium/Materials
  • Dimensions (including any frames, bases or supports - please note if they are original)
  • Any marks, inscriptions, labels or numbers on the work (including any writing or notation on prints)
  • Notes on condition
  • Provenance information (history of ownership; how and where you acquired the work)
  • Exhibition history
  • Bibliography/published references
  • Images of the work, including details of any labels, marks or notable details. (If you have high-resolution images that are too large to email, please contact Drew-McRitchie-Estate@protonmail.com)
  • Copies of any archival information held by the owner relating to the work (e.g. correspondence, invoices, purchase agreements, bills of sale, auction records, exhibition history, bibliographic references).
  • Any additional information you feel is relevant, or any questions or concerns you may have.
